He Is Legend – Suck Out The Poison 20 Year Anniversary Tour

Fall. 2006. The Van. The CD. The Tour.

I remember when He Is Legend dropped their follow-up to the critically acclaimed I Am Hollywood — it was October 2006, and fans were split. It was a departure from the sound that put them on the map via SolidState Records. That debut had launched them into the heart of a thriving metalcore scene, but this new record? Raw. Gritty. Honest.

If you were a real fan, though — from the 91025 days on Tribunal Records, or even earlier in the Uriah Omen era — you heard the DNA. It still had those core elements: southern-fried riffs, twisted fairy tale lyrics, and that unmistakable Croom swagger.

For me, it was the soundtrack to that season of life. My band was on the road non-stop. Fall nights, windows down, long drives from city to city, running on Rockstar energy drinks and this CD on repeat to keep me awake. I’ll never forget it. Every year since, without fail, I revisit that record when the leaves start to turn. It’s my Halloween season ritual.

Fast forward to September 24 at The Eulogy in Asheville, NC — the boys were back in town, and my dude Adam let me snap some photos. Some of those songs I hadn’t heard in decades — and they sounded better than ever. Schuylar Croom and co. delivered a full album playthrough. My skull was parked right in front of Adam’s cab. I’m already deaf, so no harm done — but that tone? Absolutely crushing. He plays at 11+, always has.

From what I’ve heard, there’s a first-ever vinyl pressing coming, and a second leg of the tour in the works. Do yourself a favor and don’t sleep on either. You will not be disappointed.
